Guatemala enjoys virtually a year ’round season for sailfish. In
Guatemala’s unspoiled Pacific waters, days with finicky or non-aggressive
feeders are few and far between.
For the “Fly-Flinger,” this is as close to a slam dunk for shots at
sailfish you will get. Multiple opportunities are considered routine and your
biggest worry will be whether or not you brought enough tackle. Both Fall and
Spring could provide you the chance to go toe-to-fly with the much sought-after,
but seldom caught, blue marlin.

As
if that is not enough to wear you out, football-sized tuna, dorado and some
Bubba class roosters inshore will test your fly-rodding skills to the limit.
Consider Guatemala as the destination for the most memorable saltwater
fly-fishing trip of your life.
For Big Game Fly Fishing we offer a number of different trips to suite each particular need and desire.
We have certified fly guides available for those wishing a greater level of instruction on the water as an introduction to Big Game Fly fishing for Marlin and Sailfish.
Additionally for those that do not want a guide, or are comfortable with local crews, our crews are highly qualified in all aspects of fly fishing. Since Guatemala is such a high volume location, the crews get more fly experience with billfish in a single year than most "experts" get in a lifetime, and have many valuable tips for those wishing to learn.
We will also tailor any of our trips to your specific needs and goals.
We also offer a guide hosted trip program if you are a guide wanting to expand your season and offering.
We will be offering a Billfishing Clinic each season in Guatemala.
Overview of the guided experience:

Our guided
fly-fishing trips offer the ultimate bluewater experience. We leave nothing to
chance, tending to your needs and concerns without being overbearing.
·
Our
American guide will greet you the first evening and review your tackle,
techniques and any particular goals; he’ll also offer a wealth of information
and tips on local fly-rodding.

·
Each fishing day he will be at
your side offering tips on the behavior of the fish, strategies for stalking and
presentation, and anything else that might round out your knowledge. If you
have additional questions, or want additional instructions, please ask when the
situation presents itself.
·
Each evening he will stop by your hotel to review the day’s activities and offer
tips on fly-tying, casting, knots and other techniques to help improve your
skills. If you have specific questions he will be there to answer them.
Our guides are interested in
hearing what you want to experience. Many of our clients have goals that they’d
like fulfilled, for example – a particular species or on very light tippet. Let
us know what they are, and we’ll help you fulfill those bluewater flyrod dreams.
Occasionally, one of our clients brings along someone who has never fly-fished
in salt water or is a beginning angler. If you have a lot of experience and your
partner has little, or if your partner wants to use conventional tackle, we'll
do everything we can to provide best trip possible for everyone.
Our guides will have some flies, lines and leaders available for purchase if you
need them.
On the final evening of your trip the guide will drop by the hotel to be certain
all is well and you have all the necessary travel transfers.
What our clients are saying:
What a great trip you all whipped together for me on such short notice. I just don't know how billfishing could get any better than it was! In four days we raised 53, I hooked 39 and landed 14. I can't get back there fast enough.....Joe Turano
The whole fly fishing operation was top notch. The hotel is very good and the food was as good as advertised. The boats and the crew could not be better. Fresh cantaloupe and watermelon, afternoon snacks prepared on a 26 foot boat, excellent seamanship and angling skills and when we forgot our lunches the mate made the best sandwiches of the three days, and the hotel sandwiches were already pretty good. Getting our fish was icing on the cake........ David H.
I can't believe how good sail fishing can be. 21 sails and a large dorado in one day . . .Ray Rychnovsky, outdoor writer/photographer
The best sail
fishing grounds I have ever fished. Guatemala is a must do if you are serious
about catching Sails on a fly. Guatemala is the only place I know where you are
guaranteed to catch Sails on a fly.
For first timers or experienced fly fishermen Guatemala is a must as a first
choice......Ray Barker Smith
Four days of fishing, raised fish 142 times, hooked 91, caught 36, WOW!! an unforgettable Trip.......... Marlene Whitehead
